Arm Candy

So, I’m going on a bike tour in June. Pretty exciting, I know. I have to raise financial support in order to go on this trip and am so thankful for all of those that have already sacrificially given of their finances to support me and those who have committed to pray for me and this trip.

I also wanted to use the my creative nature and make some things to sell as well. You get an awesome product and at the same time support a great cause. Win – win if you ask me!

Anyways, the first item that i’ll be making is some sweet arm candy – bracelets!! Here’s a sneak peak:

Circles & A Bike Tour

Circles

Circles. A shape all of us are familiar with; the shape of a ball, a cookie, a plate, a surprised face, and sometimes, the pattern of our lives. So many of us live life in circles of habit. We get so close to overcoming something, only to find ourselves getting sucked right back in, whether the thing we struggle with is severe and destructive such as an eating disorder, or as simple as chewing your finger nails. If you look close enough, you will find at least one circle in your life.

The reason I bring up circles is this: the Lord has placed an amazing opportunity to help women in the Congo break the circles in their life concerning the areas of brutal rape and extreme violence. The Congo is the rape capital of the world. Since 1998 there have been over 200,000 reported rapes of women and children. One can only imagine how many have gone unheard of.

Being a survivor of sexual abuse myself, and having been in a counseling position for some time, I know the viciousness of the circle. I’ve watched so many girls and women come so close to breaking free from the shame and the guilt. I’ve watched them almost grasp and believe the truth that they are of value, and are so precious to the King of kings. It gets overwhelmingly painful to watch this circle continue, and continue, and continue, and there is nothing you can do about it. Only the power of the Gospel, and Jesus Christ can break the circle and restore a life.

I was, and am, exceedingly blessed to have had some amazing women step into my life during my recovery time who understood the importance of bible-based, Christ-centered healing. That is the only way a heart can heal and change – the word of God has great power – the Gospel changes everything.

This summer I have the opportunity to go on a bike tour from Grand Rapids, MI to Milwaukee, WI to raise awareness and funds for an organization called She’s My Sister, which is an arm of the American Bible Society. She’s My Sister is working in the Congo to provide these women and children with bible-based, Christ-centered healing. They understand that the only thing that will change these women, and these men, is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This trip combines three of my favorite things: biking, Africa, and Gospel centered healing. I went to Kenya, Africa in 2010, and have been very involved in organizations working in Africa since, and due to my own testimony, She’s My Sister touched my heart in a way that words cannot express. I am so thankful for this opportunity to serve and see healing and restoration come to the Congo.

How Does A Bike Tour Help?

A bike tour is an amazing way to raise awareness. As we will be biking we will encounter many opportunities to converse with people about the mission of She’s My Sister and the importance of what they are doing. We will be having scheduled meetings with churches, youth groups, etc. as well as having the opportunity to speak with any and all that we encounter while biking.

Our goal for this trip is to raise awareness for She’s My Sister and the need for what they are doing, as well as raising funds for the organization so that they are able to continue to meet the needs of the women they are currently serving, as well expand to help more.

The need is great, the workers are few, but God is faithful and oh so good. Can I get an amen?

How Can You Help?

Your ability to help me goes far beyond financial donations, although those are important and necessary. I need prayer warriors to faithfully intercede for this trip and all those involved. I need people who are willing to share with others about what I am doing, what She’s My Sister is doing, you can partner with me in seeing healing come to the women and children of the Congo.

Pray:

Pray that the Lord would already begin to move mightily in the hearts of those that we will be encountering on this trip, as well as those who are participating.

Share:

Share this trip with those around you and encourage them to get involved, whether it be prayerfully, financially, or however the Lord leads them.

Give:

I will be in need of $3,000 to fund this trip by May 14. Included in this price is a $1,000 donation for She’s My Sister, as well as my travel expenses
